You may have reached a certain level when it comes to playing guitar. You've learned all the basic chords and began conducting open-Barre Chord Technology. And you can play the popular songs sung by Bob Dylan, Eagles, and maybe some Beatles songs. So how to move from here ..
Many continue on this path, learning more songs and learn to sing, maybe.
Some others will try to find other people with interests common and perhaps try to gather a group. Some still play the first chords and rhythm guitar playing. Some others want to learn improvisation techniques and creating guitar solos and become the guitar player.

You can also find great people in other genres, like Mark Knopfler, Santana, Mike Oldfield, all arranged for his announcement of spice and personality to the guitar. Or jazz guitarists as John McLaughlin and fusion Allan Holdsworth.
