East West

The landlocked country of Austria occupies an important position in Central Europe, which is a major hub between East and West. The transport industry Sea freight has evolved and developed in response to this increasingly important role, with new freight services available simplified to facilitate trade between Austria and its trading partners in Eastern Europe.

Until late 1980, the government-owned industries and played a role important in the Austrian economy, but since early 1990. Most of these companies have been privatized, in whole or partially. Austrian economy is well developed and is one of the richest countries of the European Union Luxembourg in fourth place after Ireland and the Netherlands.

In fact, Vienna is the fifth richest region in Europe, just behind the center of London, Luxembourg, Brussels and Hamburg. The sophistication and efficiency of shipping companies and transport freight operating in Austria reflect the high standard you would expect from such a rich and well developed.

Austrian Economics is highly integrated with neighboring Germany and increasingly in the East. The freight industry connections and networks established to ensure that freight is effective in these regions.

The Austrian economy has grown well, with growth of about 1% per year during 2001-2003, but then increased to nearly 3% in 2004 and 2005.This was driven by booming exports and higher growth mainly in Central and Eastern Europe.

Having joined the EU in 1995, and adopted the euro in 2002, the effects of European integration in the economy of Austria have been very positive. Trade with other EU countries accounts for almost three quarters of imports and exports Austria, which dominates the country's international cargo.

Expand Trade and freight transport with new members from Central and Eastern Europe which joined the EU in May 2004 and January 2007 are an important component of economic activity in Austria and represent 14% of all commercial activity. In addition, Austrian companies have invested considerably in these countries and there is a tendency to move production to labor intensive low for these countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In fact, approximately half of foreign direct investment in Austria is in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The development objective in the field of freight transport services have reflected this trend.

Despite the boom years have passed, Austria still has the potential to attract international companies seeking easy access to developing markets in Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. About 350 U.S. companies have made investments in Austria, mostly in the spirit, and there is scope considerable further expansion of the role of Austria as a bridge between East and West.

Apart from the European Union, there is a significant trade with the United States and therefore there are many transportation companies serving this market for international freight. The total value of trade with United States is 13 billion dollars. Imports from the United States totaling more than 5 million euros and exports to the United States were nearly $ 8 billion in 2007.

Although there is some important iron and steel producers, chemical plants and petroleum, most enterprises in Austria are relatively low.

The service sector is very important in Austria and generates most of its gross domestic product. This includes, for example, finance, consulting and law firms in Vienna, which also operate in Central and Eastern Europe. Well-known Austrian companies are AKG, Wienerberger, Red Bull, Swarovski Doppelmayer. The trucking industry of goods has evolved to meet the needs of this diverse market, linking producers to markets in East and West.

Austria has a position only as the center between East and West. It also has a unique position as moderator of the contacts between industrialized and developing countries and has participated actively in building the bridge to the east, rising at all levels in Europe and the States of the former Soviet Union.

Thus, the role Austria as between East and West is more than its fair geographical position and its tradition of neutrality has allowed the country to develop an intermediary and facilitator between the Western developed countries and emerging economies of Eastern Europe. The combination of these factors create the perfect conditions for growth of freight services industry in Austria that the importance of consolidating its position as a facility in the future.
