André Rieu was born on 1 October 1949, in an ancient city dating from Roman times, called Maastricht, Netherlands. He was so agile and began to study the violin when she was only five years.

He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Maastricht and Liège Royal Conservatory. I was fascinated by orchestras. For three years in the '70s, he studied with luminaries such as Andre Gertler at the Brussels Academy of Music. While there, he won the "First Award.

In 1987 a dream came true and formed the Johann Strauss Orchestra with only twelve members. How has grown! The band now uses the talent among the musicians of forties and fifties. In 2007, Andrew has also targeted another first. He toured Australia alone, without his band. He was received with enthusiasm and delighted the audience with their own interpretation of unofficial anthem of its nationals from Australia, 'Waltzing Matilda'. PBS, Public Broadcasting Services has sent a great number of performances of Andre and the Johann Strauss Orchestra, both in the UK and North America. A wonderful show in particular was the Piazza della Republica, Cortona, Tuscany. A tender and deeply moving performance of Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro", sung by a young soprano and beautiful, Carmen Monarcha, Brazil. People were moved to tears in the audience and watching at home. I know because I was one of them. Carmen and two other sopranos, Carla and Suzan Maffioletti Arens, delighted the audience with several other voices in concert. I recommend that this DVD is placed on your "Must Have" list. I guarantee that you will never be disappointed with it.
